Our Kingdom was created and maintained by the Americans and the British, therefore, the survival of the Kingdom was in the hands of the same forces . We had to trust them and to work with them, but in the end we were betrayed by them .
The Shah and the Empress loved their country, and their plans during the 70s were designed for the benefit of the Iranian people and not the United States . I believe this to be the reason for their downfall as they lost the support of the superpower.
The Shah called himself "King of Kings", and suffered from a mental delusion 'Folie de Grandeur', but at the same time he feared the Americans and the British, and took advice from the Ambassadors of those countries on a regular basis.
